Agri-OpenCore, the Innovate UK funded project building an open development platform for agricultural robots, completed in September 2026 after three and a half years.
The project brought together APS Group, the University of Lincoln, Dogtooth Technologies and Extend Robotics to cut the time and cost of developing robotic harvesting systems, and to leave a legacy that speeds up agri-robotics for any crop.
Its main outcomes are:
- Reusable ROS 2 components and containers that give developers a tested starting point, released as open source.
- Standards, human-robot safety and navigation at scale, including topological navigation for robot fleets and runtime safety monitoring.
- Digital twins and simulation of strawberry, tomato and packhouse environments.
The work continues beyond the project. Navigation and fleet coordination technology developed at the University of Lincoln is licensed to the spinout JABAS.AI, open components are used by others such as SowBot, and the new HARVEST Robot Adoption Hub builds on the AOC ROS 2 stack.
